Maintaining Gates and Elevators

Gates, gate operators, and elevators are some of the most frequently used features at a self-storage facility. Now that spring is on the way, it’s a good time to inspect these systems and make any necessary repairs. This action ensures that these systems are operating at peak efficiently while helping to minimize the potential for costly property and liability claims in the event of malfunction.

• Gates and gate operators – Inspect the gate to ensure that it is opening and closing smoothly. Lubricate the gate chain and make sure there is not too much slack. Given the hardships of winter weather, it is a good idea to schedule an inspection by a certified and insured local vendor who can identify any problem areas and make necessary repairs.

• Elevators – If your facility includes elevators, you should be on a maintenance program with a professional service provider. Schedule an inspection with your provider and check with them to ensure that you understand the regular maintenance tasks you should be performing such as vacuuming the elevator tracks.
